Again?

It happened again.  Sterling's scout group meets at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays.  To get him there, I take a short lunch so that I can leave work early.  I hardly ever go home for lunch because half the time its my turn for carpool.  Anyway, a few weeks ago I hurried home and I sat outside in the car while Ster grabbed his scout stuff - and then I hurriedly dropped him off at the church.  (Okay, so he can walk but where we were really late that day so I drove him - silly.  He could use exercise).  About 10 minutes after I got home, I noticed we had a message - it was his scout leader telling me that they had to have scouts at their house because they were making birdhouses.  A call the day before would have been nice!  I hurried back to the church to find out that the scout group before him and sent him to the scout leaders house.  I wasn't happy - couldn't they have called the night before?  After thinking about it, I realized that I'm probably the only work-outside-the-home mom and most would have gotten the message that they left at 1 pm.  I left them a note with my cell phone number on it telling them to call me if there are any changes.  Yeah, well they didn't.  Yesterday they weren't supposed to have scouts.  I got home and about 5:30 found a note on the door that they were having a pizza party/video game belt loop thingy.  I have no idea when they dropped the note off, but I sure didn't see it the night before when I took Duke out to potty.  So, once again we flew to scouts!  He missed half of it, but atleast I didn't have to make dinner =)

I know - I'm being unreasonable to ask for a little bit more notice.  I don't know why it is bothering me so much - but it is!

Going back to School

It is time for me to go back to school.

Earlier today, when I picked up Ster from daycare to go to tutoring, Ster was quite cranky.  I kept asking him what was wrong and each time he answered "Nothing!"  I asked if he felt sick, if something happened at school or day care, or just what was wrong with him.

After about 5 "What's wrong?" questions out of my mouth, Ster says, "You need to go back to school because you don't know what NOTHING means!"

I've got to vent

right now.  I really want to scream.  This last year has been nice in our neighborhood (other than two yappy dogs across the street).  No blaring radios (okay, rarely did I hear that).  No one hitting garbage cans to make my dog bark.  No noisy lady talking all the time.  No kids hitting our fence as they walk to their vehicle.
All of that is coming to and end.  A sad day for our neighborhood.

Have I mentioned that we have neighbors behind us that are really, really nice?  Well, they are too nice.  Last year, their daughter FINALLY moved out.  Yesterday, she (and her hubby and three boys) moved back in.  For *yeah right* six months.

Hello speed demons (the oldest is driving).  Hello noise.  Hello Dukey-Doo barking.

This really tempts me to put a "For Sale" sign in front of our house (but we won't).

Duke

See this cute thing?

Well, his fur ain't all that cute!  I sure love my little Pukey-Doo - but I can do without his fur.  On the couch.  In the carpet.  In the rugs.  ON MY CLOTHES!  I am counting down the days until we get him shaved.  And after that, we are definitely putting money aside to pay for regular visits to Precious Pet Paradise for some TLC.  Not only is he hairy, but he's kinda stinky right now (every time we have a chance to bath him it is bad weather).

On the bright side - isn't my Pukey-Doo just ADORABLE?

It is finally over!

Our Additional Relief Society Meeting dinner is over with.  Whew!  It did make for such a long day.  I'm not really fond of being on that committee - but it does beat other callings I could have.  One activity a month should be easy, right?  Yeah, tell that to my feet at the end of the night!  The evening didn't turn out at all like I expected it to.  I was a bit cranky by the end of the night.  No, I take that back.  I got very cranky.  Plus, with my achy feet and legs I just wanted to go home.  I like activities where we get there, get it done, get it cleaned up, and get the heck out of there!  I'm not one for sitting around twiddling my thumbs - and that is what we had to for about 45 minutes.  And then I put too much ice in the water pitchers and a couple of ladies dumped water/ice all over the place.  Oops.  And then when we were cleaning up, one of the ladies in the ward kept coming in and filling plates for her kids - and kept asking for this or that.  Hello!  I'm trying to do dishes - get out of my way.  At 9 pm with a ton of dishes to do, I do not want to be helping her find a roll for her son.  Can you tell I was cranky?

And, I heard from a couple of people that the cake wasn't all that great.  WHAT?  How can that be?  Oh wait, it must be because they didn't eat my cake (okay, kidding).  My friend told me it was okay but was a bit dry.  Oh well - I guess not everyone can like what I like, right?  I'm still in love with that cake and I still haven't tried it with the caramel topping.  I did, however, refrain from eating and eating more last night.

I guess I've complained enough.  Actually, you haven't heard the half of it - but because I want to be nice I won't go off and all I thought went wrong last night.

Oops

I have a terrible confession to make.  Just terrible.

Saturday I had to make a practice cake.  I call it practice because I'm not much of a cook/baker - and I needed to try making a cake to see if it would turn out okay.  If it didn't turn out then I knew I'd have to go and buy one for our Additional Relief Society Meeting.  (I wouldn't take a crappy cake to a nice dinner).

Anyway, I made OATMEAL CAKE and can I tell you that I am in love with that cake?  I think it even tops German Chocolate Cake - and I just love love love German Chocolate Cake!  I made the cake late Saturday night and just tasted it and mmmmmmm it was yummy.  So I tasted a little more before bed.  Sunday was a bit harder since it was Fast Sunday - I did hold off until after Church.  No, I didn't make it until dinner but at least I made it until 3!  Then I ate Oatmeal Cake for my lunch.  And then for dessert.  And a bedtime snack.  Get the picture?  I just polished off that blasted cake this morning! In less than 5 days I ate an entire cake BY MYSELF!  Oh my goodness.

No wonder I'm a chunky monkey (borderline enormous elephant)!

(but it had oatmeal - so it is somewhat healthy, right?)

All I can say is OH MY!
